Nā Kula Kaiapuni Kauwelaʻs Summer 2023 program served 374 students at 7 sites on three different islands (Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi and Oʻahu). The program provided an official DOE Hawaiian immersion summer school option at the host school, Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Ānuenue, at other smaller immersion school sites (Lānaʻi, Molokaʻi, Pū'ōhala, Waimānalo) as well as the Hawaiian community of Pūowaina.

This program made it possible for students at those Hawaiian immersion sites to maintain their Hawaiian language over the summer instead of experiencing language learning loss. It also allowed non-immersion students to experience a Hawaiian immersion education and increase their knowledge of Hawaiian language and culture and possibly pave the way for them to enroll as new Hawaiian immersion students.
