PROGRAM OUTCOMES:

During the Spring 2023 program the following outcomes were achieved:


  • 37 participants completed the program, of which 100% are Hawaiian/part-Hawaiian.


  • 209.5 program hours targeting positive personal development. Including pro-social behaviors and knowledge of Native Hawaiian cultural values, language and practices.


  • 191 hours targeting academic support. Including increasing the knowledge of ʻāina-based careers, college and career readiness, and support in completion of homework and other school assignments.


  • 108.5 hours targeting health and wellness. Including ocean safety and swimming skills, and nutrition and healthy habits.


  • 328.5 hours of cultural connectedness. Including ocean recreation, and knowledge and practice of Hawaiian language, traditions and values.


  • 100% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed that they can do traditional Hawaiian physical activities.


  • 100% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed that they feel comfortable in the ocean.


  • 91% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed that they enjoy doing things on the ʻāina or in the kai.


  • 91% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed that they do Hawaiian traditional practices.


  • 83% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed they can observe natural signs at the beach.


  • 83% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed that they can do Hawaiian protocol.


  • 83% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed that they understand their role and kuleana in their school.


  • 75% of keiki participants that completed a post-survey strongly agreed that they believe they can do something to make their community of Waimānalo better.
