PROGRAM OUTCOMES:
The Hoʻāla Ke Kilo Spring Program at Huilua Fishpond provided participants with a deeper understanding and appreciation of Hawaiian culture, history, and natural resource management through hands-on experiences at Huilua fishpond.
Some of the learning outcomes from Hoʻāla Ke Kilo include:
1. Understanding the cultural significance of fishponds in Hawaiʻi and their role in traditional Hawaiian aquaculture practices.
2. Learning about the natural environment of the fishpond and the ecological relationships between the different species that inhabit it.
3. Developing keen observation skills and resource management practices.
4. Gaining knowledge and practical experience in the restoration and maintenance of a traditional Hawaiian fishpond.
5. Building an appreciation for the cultural practices and values that have sustained Hawaiian communities for generations.
6. Developing a sense of personal responsibility for the stewardship of our natural resources and the preservation of Hawaiian culture.
7. Building relationships with participants and community members through shared experiences and collaboration.
